Happy 200th Birthday to The Law Society!
In August 2025, our committee took advantage of the offer to Council Members to host a group for a private tour of Chancery Hall, followed by afternoon tea in The Six Clerks within Chancery Hall.
We were met in the Reading Room by our current President, Richard Atkinson. In the photo, taken in the Reading Room, you will see from left to right: Paul Fenton, Karen Dovaston, Richard Atkinson, Natalie Fletcher, Simon Jones and Andrew Hurrell.
We learned about how the Society came into being (thank goodness the original name was changed....!) and the architecture of The Reading Room, The Common Room and The Library. The Library is Hogwarts on steroids! Only part of the collection is in the library with other books stored deep in salt mines to protect them. We were able to handle some of the precious books. One of the books was produced c 1152, handwritten on vellum.
If you have not visited, Chancery Hall will be part of Open London on 13 September 2025. Chancery Hall is your 'home'. Take yourself up there!
